A Malaysia Airlines flight carrying 298 passengers crashed in eastern Ukraine on Thursday while traveling from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. An adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister wrote on Facebook that the plane was shot down, the Associated Press reports.
The reason for the crash is still unclear, but the plane did come down in an area currently experiencing military activity between pro-Russian opposition and the Ukraine army.
Two Ukrainian military aircraft were shot down in the area recently and the Ukraine government was quick to blame the pro-Russian separatists for shooting down Malaysia Airlines flight MH17.
