Integrated waste management solution champions, Zoomlion Ghana Limited, has announced plans to partner newly created ministry—Inner-City and Zongo Development.
The move, according to the waste management company, is aimed at supporting the new ministry to deal with sanitation and its associated problems in inner-cities and Zongo communities across the country.
Communications Manager of Zoomlion, Robert Coleman, who expressed excitement at the creation of the new ministry, intoned that his outfit will intensify public education on keeping the environs clean, especially within Zongo communities and inner-cities.
According to him, Zoomlion will also employ the use of chemicals to fumigate the communities and equally adopt measures to get rid of the stench emanating from stagnant water within the Zongos.
Mr. Coleman further disclosed that Zoomlion will collaborate with Zongo communities to organise regular clean-up exercises and also provide more waste bins to prevent residents from dumping in open drains indiscriminately.
The provision of waste bins will be done through the Imams in the Zongo communities.
He commended the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) for the creation of the inner-city and Zongo development ministry.
This, he asserted, will inure to the benefit Zongos and inner-cities.
He also added that the move by the government will help create job opportunities for the teeming youth, particularly in Zongo communities.
Mr. Coleman, however, pointed out that sanitation was a shared responsibility. And to this end, he called on Ghanaians to be more responsible in waste disposal and management.
He reminded city authorities to play their part by improving upon the drainage system and rigidly enforcing the by-laws on sanitation and exacting appropriate penalties on offenders where necessary.
He, therefore, seized the opportunity to congratulate Hon. Alhaji Abubakar Sidik Boniface for his appointment as the Minister for Inner-City and Zongo Development.
