Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Planning Committee, Mr. Kenneth Amankwa said that the cloths were printed by the Akosombo Textile Limited within two weeks. He therefore encouraged Ghanaians to patronise local manufacturers seeing they have what it takes to meet up with both local and foreign demands.
Mr. Amankwa also disclosed that it was UNIBANK that funded the production of the [email protected] cloth. He commended corporate bodies who have so far supported the planning committee (who have volunteered to work for free) towards the 60th independence celebrations, while appealing for more support.
Chairman of the sub-committee for events, Laud Commey was however quick to point out that the planning committee only supported the production of the [email protected] cloth, and will not be in charge of selling them. He pointed out that the committee has issued the right of sales to wholesalers and the Makola Market Women and Cloth Dealers Association.
According to the committee, the wholesale and retail prices for the cloth is GH¢220 and GH¢240 respectively – for a piece comprising 12 yards. Spokesperson of the Planning Committee, Jefferson Sackey, also said that measures will be put in place to ensure that wholesalers do not hoard the cloth in order to subsequently hike the price.
Mr. Laud Commey indicated that per President Akufo-Addo’s instruction, the [email protected] logo and theme belongs to all Ghanaians and will not attract any form of payment before being used by anyone for business purposes. He therefore encouraged all to use the logo to design any item of their choice – caps, T-shirts… to promote business during the celebrations.
Ghana’s 60th independence anniversary will come off on Monday, the 6th of March, 2017 – about a week and few days from now. Click here to find out more about activities mapped out for the celebration.
