You Cannot Deceive People With Statistics and Get Away With It – Nketia To President

General Secretary of opposition National Democratic Congress, Johnson Asiedu Nketia has lashed out at President Akufo-Addo following the latter’s delivery of the State of the Nation Address.

President Akufo-Addo presented his first State of the Nation Address in Parliament Tuesday highlighting the country he took over from the previous government in a dilapidated condition.

A visibly disappointed Mr. Nketia described the President’s figures of the economy inherited from the NDC’s government as deceitful.

“I don’t know where he picked his sources but I don’t think that there’s anything that our administration has said which did not represent the facts. Because when they were talking about some hidden expenses and so on, when they were pushed to the wall, they now said that they were things that were accruals or whatever… you cannot deceive people with statistics and get away with it,” he chided.

The NDC general secretary, however, added that he couldn’t care less about what the President presented to the country once he will deliver.

“Whatever it is, I’m not interested in arguing about the correctness or otherwise about statistics. The bottom line is that whatever terms you describe this economy, you were fully aware of its state before making your promises so I hope he will not use these statistics to form the basis of justifying when or why he’s not going to be able to implement the promises”.

Mr. Nketia further served notice that “we’ll hold him to his one constituency-one million dollars per year, we’ll hold him to his free education from kindergarten to SHS…. He should come and fix the promises based upon which he was elected”

In his presentation, President Akufo-Addo indicated that “the reality of Ghana’s finances are quite stark as a result of policy choices” but was quick to add that “I wasn’t elected by the people to complain… I was elected to fix what is broken and my government and I are determined to do just that”
