Some opinion leaders and youth of Yokwenor in the Lower Manya district of the Eastern Region have challenged the Member of Parliament for the area, Ebenezer Okletey Tei Larbi, to hand over keys to a funeral home the community constructed but is currently used as a CHPS compound.
The agitated group has also called on the legislator to retract or withdraw comments made on several radio and television stations that he put up the facility.
At a press briefing on Saturday, the chairman of Yokwenor Youth for Development, Peter Odonkor, explained that the youth and leaders of the community were surprised that the MP had included in the National Democratic Congress’ Green Book the facility he borrowed to use as a CHPS compound for only six months as part of his achievements for the constituency.
He further explained that the MP had agreed to fix ceiling fans, paint the building as well as construct a pavement on the compound as part of the agreement before the community would hand over the facility to him. However, he failed woefully in fulfilling his part of the deal.
According to Mr Odonkor, the chairman of the NDC in the constituency, Walter Yaw Humenu, had initiated talks on behalf of the MP when he led a health committee to talk with leaders of Yokwenor, but several attempts to reach the Member of Parliament proved futile.
According to the opinion leaders and youth of the area, Mr Tei Larbi has mounted a signpost at Yokwenor with the inscription, ‘Donated by MP’, meaning he constructed the funeral home, which is now a CHPS compound.
The opinion leaders and youth groups are, therefore, demanding the keys to the funeral home “because it was not intended to be transformed into a CHPS compound” and have also asked the MP to retract statements he made on various media platforms and many others that he constructed the Yokwenor funeral home.
Attempts by classfmonline.com to reach Mr Tei Larbi on phone for his side of the story proved futile.
