Why I Chaired Regional Security Meeting

The Brong Ahafo Regional Minister-Designate Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh has admitted to chairing a Regional Security Committee (REGSEC) meeting ahead of his vetting and approval by parliament.

“Mr Chairman, it is true I chaired a REGSEC meeting last week,” he told the committee during vetting on Thursday, February 16, 2017.

He, however, justified his action stating that he only did so as a representative of the president in the region and went ahead to read a letter from the presidency to that effect.

Prior to reading contents of the letter, he had earlier stated that he did so in his acting capacity as minister but when Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu drew his attention to the fact he could be flouting portions of the 1992 constitution, he withdrew and stated that he was only a representative of the president in consonance with the transition act.

Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh until his appointment was the Brong Ahafo regional Chairman of the NPP and has promised to ensure that buildings in the area are put up in accordance with prescribed plans to avert the proliferation of slums.

According to him, this can be done with the empowerment of task force in the various Municipal and district Assemblies to ensure that building laws are adhered to.
