President John Dramani Mahama, has been featured in a world exclusive edition of the periodical Ovation International lifestyle magazine, that celebrates success in Africa, but not all his close family members were shown in the magazine.
The 256-page edition placed a special focus on the developmental projects of the President and touched slightly on his life as a family man and on his Vice President, Kwesi Amissah Arthur, as a partner in his “blistering progress”.
The magazine, published by Nigerian businessman Chief Dele Momodu was officially launched in Accra on Friday night by the President himself.
Twenty-four (24) pages out of the total 256 [From page 33 – 56] of the magazine is devoted to the life of President Mahama as a family man but only two of his children – Farida and Jesse – were featured.
First Lady Lordina was also featured but not captured at the time the magazine visited the Mahama home. Photos of the First Lady and the President in the United States and in Scotland where he recently received an Honorary doctorate are featured.
However no photos of the President’s other children apart from Farida and Jesse are shown.
Offering an explanation why not all his children and the First Lady were captured at home, President Mahama said this at the launch: “Somebody saw the magazine and said but where was the First Lady.”
The answer is: “she had traveled and so she was not in.”
The person again asked but what of the other kids?
Answer: “The older boys are all away, university, and so they come [home] only during vacations. And so it was just me and Farida and Jesse in the house. But Jesse was spending time with his friends and so he couldn’t be with us,” President Mahama explained.
Throwing light on how the interview was done for the publication, the President said it was done partly in his office at the Flagstaff House and partly at his home.
At home, the President said when his daughter, Farida, saw that he was doing make-up prior to the photo shoot and interview, she questioned it and said she thought it was only ladies who put on make-up.
In some of the pictures, the President is featured playing basketball.
“I had a little time to spend at home, myself and Farida and Jesse spend some time playing basketball and so that basket was based on quite some practice.”
