The Ghana Armed Forces has rejected reports suggesting that its High Command is collecting the electoral details of its personnel to allegedly aid the Electoral Commission (EC) in voting malpractice.
According to the military, the Commission is only conducting an innocuous exercise to compile a special voter’s register for soldiers who may be on duty on Election Day.
The exercise has triggered some speculation with some naysayers alleging ill-intent on the part of the two institutions.
But in a Citi News interview, the Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Armed Forces, Colonel Aggrey-Quarshie said the exercise is only to ensure soldiers are not disenfranchised.
According to him, “all those who will be involved in the special voting have been asked to submit their voter details for onward submission to the EC so that their names could be including in the special voting list.”
He explained that it was only prudent that they collect the voter details because “in order not to send the wrong details, you would want to see the ID cards and then take the details from it and send the persons card to him or her.”
“The ID card is not being collected from you. They are taking the details so that they create the register because it is not all of us who registered at one single polling station,” Colonel Aggrey-Quarshie also assured.
