Students of the Wenchi Senior High School are undergoing counselling following the death of 15 of their mates during the Kintampo Waterfall accident.
The dead, together with some 22 others who are seriously injured, were swimming at the base of the Kintampo Waterfall when a tree fell on them following an earlier rainstorm in the area. The incident is said to have happened on Sunday March 19 at about 4:30pm.
The headmaster of the school, Foster Boateng, speaking to Class News, said the counselling had become necessary because some of the students had been left traumatised after the incident.
“The counselling started this morning (Tuesday 21 March) …We started with a reverend minister who came all the way from Accra to have a word with them and that took at least one hour. After meeting the students she also met the staff to finish her session. Another committee will follow up from the Methodist hospital and the church,” he stated.
Mr Boateng noted that arrangements would be made for individual students to receive special counselling if the need arises.
“After today, we will see the attitude of the children and then maybe we do a follow up. If there should be the need for counselling for selected students we will do that,” he added.
