Pressure group, Citizen Ghana Movement has hailed Former Attorney General, Martin Amidu for his unrelenting fight against corruption especially his quest to make businessman Alfred Woyome pay back the GHS51.2 million judgment debt.
The Supreme Court Wednesday, November 16 ruled in an application set by Citizen Vigilante, Martin Amidu for Mr. Alfred Agbesi Woyome to appear before the apex court to be orally examined on oath by Martin Amidu in connection with the retrieval of the GHC51.2 million which the Court held in July 2014 to have been wrongfully paid to Mr. Woyome.
Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, the group in a statement has lauded the landmark ruling saying this should be acknowledged as a significant boost in the fight against corruption.
The Head of Media Relations for the group, George Anti in an interview said Ghanaians must be very proud of the earnest efforts by Amidu to make the state retrieve from Woyome the GHC51.2 million cash paid him.
He adds “our Attorney General has let us down and it is Amidu who has stood where many have fallen. So we are spurring, encouraging and urging him on.”
Anti said the group will not relent in supporting Amidu in every way possible, including mobilizing funds to support his course.
“We recognize the import of the case in empowering citizens to step up and take on the role of protecting the national coffers, especially in instances where the government reneges on this responsibility. We look forward to 24th November, 2016, when Mr. Woyome will be examined, and we remain hopeful that this matter will be brought to its logical conclusion with Ghanaians being the ultimate victors.” he said.
