The Central Regional Branch of the National Democratic Congress(NDC) says it is unfazed by the decision of the Ekumfi constituency chairman to defect to the opposition New Patriotic Party, at a dying minute of the 2016 elections.
Ekow Esirifi Buckman who announced his defection to the NPP at a news Conference yesterday cited corruption and cronyism by party officials in the region as basis for his exit from the party.
But the Director of Communications for the NDC in the region, Kwesi Dawood in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM denied the allegations and rather welcomed the decision of Mr. Esirifie to leave the party.
“We(NDC) in Central region wholeheartedly welcome the defection of Mr. Esirifie Buckman. It’s a good news for the Ekumfi NDC and the party in Ekumfi will continue to move from strength to strength.
“What the man just did is an indication of the failure of the loyalty test we put to him, when the party granted him amnesty to return to us when he contested as an independent parliamentary candidate in 2008 and campaigned for Nana Akufo-Addo”
