Minister for Education, Hon. Matthew Opoku Prempeh says the government will build some 1,700 kindergartens throughout the country in order to fulfill their vision of ensuring vacancies for all 4 and 5-year olds countrywide.
“That in itself is a huge challenge, we did the gap analysis and realized we have to build some 1,700 KGs across the country”, he explained in an interview with the publisher of the Treasure Kids Newspaper; Ms. Precious Bonsu, in Accra.
When asked which level of education held his immediate attention, he explained that “our focus regarding education is already cut out in our manifesto, we have a policy for each area right from kindergarten upwards”.
He also revealed that the curricula at the basic level will be reduced to the few courses needed for the future academic programmes envisioned by the children.
“We are going to reduce the curricula of the primary schools to basically; reading, writing, arithmetic and creativity. So our education at the primary school level will be geared towards making the person creative”.
He explained that the country does not want to train her kids for Ghana but for the global market.
“We want to consolidate and improve upon what we have, we don’t want to have children who have complexes”, he said.
