Coach of Elmina Sharks, Kobina Ammisah, has cautioned his players to be wary of defending league champions, Wa All Stars, when they clash with them in their first league match of the season in the Ghana Premier League (GPL).
Wa All Stars lost woefully in their first attempt in the CAF Champions League against Libyan side, Al Ahli Tripoli, by 3-1 at the Tamale Sports Stadium – a defeat that has left the defending league wounded ahead of their clash with the Fearsome Sharks at home.
Elmina Sharks defied all odds to swim their way to join the elites in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) and the only way to curb any threat in their quest to leave an indelible mark will be to exploit the weakness of Wa All Stars at their favourite Malik Jabir Stadium in Wa.
Speaking in an interview with Today Sports, the 42-year-old Coach of Elmina Sharks who has rich experience in the second-tier league after masterminding the promotion of Berekum Chelsea and Hasaacas in 2007 and 2013 respectively said: “underrating Wa All Stars because they lost woefully does not mean we should ignore their potency and might in upsetting us.”
“Indeed facing the league champions is a very daunting task and they are going to be aggressive against us because they lost playing in Africa. They disappointed their fans and management so playing against them will be very difficult because they have and must make amends in their first league match,” he added.
He explained that “they owe a responsibility to the people of Elmina to stay and win the league and that remains their focus. Every match will be difficult so we don’t intend undermining the strength of any team. It’s our time and we will show the Ghana that our qualification was no fluke.”
Elmina Sharks were declared winners of Zone Two of the GN Bank Division One League after securing 66 points, 10 more than second placed Karela FC.
