Member of Parliament for Nsawam-Adoagyiri Constituency in the Eastern Region, Hon Frank Annoh Dompreh has charged his constituents not to meet the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members with violence but rather pray for them to change their ways.
While addressing party supporters in his constituency, Hon Dompreh urged them not to allow themselves to be used to perpetrate violent acts as the election draws nearer.
“The message we are drumming home is, we are not going to meet them [the NDC] half way with their violent activities. All we will do is to pray for God himself to touch their hearts to change.”
His call was against the back drop of an attack on the members of the Suhum branch of the women supporters group of the NPP, Loyal Ladies Tuesday, 11th October, 2016.
The Loyal Ladies were reported to have been attacked by thugs suspected to be sympathizers of the ruling NDC.
The young ladies had gone for a house to house campaign and just when they were about rapping up their activities, thugs from nowhere surrounded them, demanding to know which of them had called the Municipal Chief Executive of the area, who’s also the NDC’s Parliamentary candidate, names.
In the process, some of them were manhandled and had fractures on their legs, following which they reported the incident to the Police and were given medical forms to receive treatment.
The group were said to have accused the MCE, Mrs. Margaret Ansei, affectionately called Magoo of infidelity, an allegation that infuriated the thugs.
The Loyal ladies then went to the Suhum Chief’s palace where preparations were underway for the town’s Odwira festival last week to file a report, but the thugs followed them there and assaulted them again, which led the chief to report the matter to the security authorities.
According to Hon Dompreh, when they were called for a meeting at the council, “the Suhum Police Commander stated clearly that, nobody has monopoly over violence.”
He has therefore warned the NDC that if they do not stop attacking them [the NPP members], they might start to retaliate which he feared, will not auger well for the nation.
