Mr Koku Anyidoho, a Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has alleged that the Party would not allow the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to cause mayhem in the Volta Region.
He said the Party had spotted a document allegedly developed by the NPP to create confusion in the Region ahead of the December 7 general election and said the NDC “will not sit down for a few traitors to destroy our Region”.
Addressing a press conference in Ho on Tuesday, Mr Anyidoho alleged that the said document, titled: “Bridging the Volta and the NPP gap-working document in perspective; The Past, Present and Future,” had plans by the NPP to “bribe” some radio presenters along the borders of Ghana and Togo to preach fear and discourage the electorate from exercising their franchise on December 7.
He also alleged that the NPP planned to engage “macho men” at some polling stations and cause “street boys to fire some bamboo guns” on Election Day to scare electorate away from voting.
Mr Anyidoho described the document as “damning and diabolical” and said the NDC would not allow people in the Region to be intimidated ahead of the polls.
He said the document exposed NPP’s tacit admission that it had no chance of getting significant votes in the Region and urged the media not allow the Party to use money to influence the quality of their work.
Meanwhile, Mr Enoch Amegbletor, Deputy Regional Communication Director, NPP, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency described the allegations by NDC as panic reaction and that the NPP had no such document.
He said the NPP was aware of rules governing elections in the country and had gone by them in the past elections and committed to peaceful polls in the December.
