The Communications Minister designate and Presidential Spokesperson, Mustapha Hamid has given a clear indication that plans are in place to change the name of the seat of government from the current Flagstaff House to Golden Jubilee House (Jubilee House).
According to Mr. Hamid, there is good reason behind the name change because Ghana, an independent country cannot be tied to some colonial names that suggest that we are still dependent in our governance.
Speaking on Joy Fm in Accra, Mr. Hamid indicated that the name change would happen soon where all signages would change to suit the current administrations understanding and reason behind the name.
He said when former President John Kufour completed the renovation of the Flagstaff House, the then government believed that because Ghana was 50 years at the time, it was good for us to as a country to name the edifice ‘Jubilee House’ to mark the anniversary which was a significant milestone.
This according to the incoming Information Minister is justifiable reason enough to warrant a name change which he says would be done soon.
