GOVERNMENTS will come and go but our beloved country, Ghana, will always be there. Since the inception of the Fourth Republic; two political parties have governed this country –the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
THE recent change of government through the ballot box is a clear indication that political parties and for that matter, governments will come and go while Ghana will still remain.
FOR this reason, our actions and inactions must always be underlined by projecting Ghana and putting Ghana first above whatever considerations we may have. If this had been our philosophy, perhaps Ghana would have advanced far ahead than where we are currently and the conditions of life for our people would have been far better than they are now.
UNFORTUNATELY, this has not been the case. Rather we are confronted with a situation where a lot more of our public officers, those elected and those appointed, come into office with their parochial interests paramount. Everything else, including the good of Ghana, becomes a secondary matter. This attitude, no doubt, continues to impoverish our country.
IT is against this backdrop that Today agrees with the Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP’s) call on the NDC and the NPP to always make sure that they put Ghana first in anything that they do. The PPP’s call, which was stated in a statement issued and signed by its National Chairman, Nii-Allottey Brew-Hammond, at the weekend, lamented the myriad post-election violence that has characterised the Akufo-Addo’s presidency.
THE PPP wonders why both the NPP and the NDC will engage in act(s) of violence and our law enforcers, mandated to protect and safeguard our interest, continue to look on. Yes, there have been reports of arrests made in some cases but the violence is still going on in some parts of the country.
WHILE we call on the law enforcers to up their game and bring an end to the lawlessness going on, it also should be made clear to both the NPP and the NDC activists that Ghana is no one party’s preserve.
ONCE again, we would like to appeal passionately to the police service to deal with the continuous and disturbing reports of post-election violence. Ghana does not need the indiscipline connected to seizure of state assets that is creeping in after successful polls. The police must act decisively and bring culprits to book as a deterrent, going forward.
