Former Defence Minister, Dr. Benjamin Kunbour has revealed how Ministers under the erstwhile Mahama government used to have arguments about the perception of corruption in the administration.
Speaking on GH One TV’s current affairs show ‘State of Affairs’, Dr. Kunbour lamented the ‘unfortunate’ tag of corruption on officials who served in the Mahama-led administration, a situation himself and other members of the administration argued about on several occasions.
“It becomes difficult for you to say whether there was corruption or there wasn’t but as a matter of fact the perception of corruption was very high in this country. Whether that perception translated into the truth or not is another matter. You will not have the empirical evidence”, he said.
He added, “…wherever you went this stigma that was thrown at the government in terms of perceived corruption was very high and it permeated the entire system. And any colleague you ask, everybody was asking this question about how we came to inherit this whole notion of being the most corrupt government since Ghana’s independence started. So yes we have been having exchanges on a number of these issues”.
There have been several attributions as far as the cause of the NDC’s embarrassing defeat in the 2016 polls is concerned with many within the party labelling corruption as one of the main reasons that led to the outcome of the 2016 polls.
The party has meanwhile set-up a 13-member committee under the leadership of Dr. Kwesi Botchwey to do an inquiry into what may have caused its defeat in the 2016 polls.
