The Progressive People’s Party says they are not yet done with the EC in spite of the dismissal of their filling fee suit against the election management body by the High court.
The Nkrumahist party sued the EC over what they said was the astronomical hike in the filing fee for candidates contesting in the upcoming elections.
But the High court on Friday dismissed the case differing the reason for the judgement to Monday.
Speaking to Starr News on the judgment, policy adviser for the PPP, Kofi Asamoah Siaw hinted that the party despite its failure to get the High Court to uphold its plea, will still go ahead to challenge the legality of the new filing fees.
He told Starr News’ Wilberforce Asare minutes after the ruling that “the matter is not ended.”
He said the substantive matter, which is determining the legality of the EC’s decision, will be heard on Tuesday October 11.
“So the matter is not ended. What has happen today is that even if you go and pay; Progressive People’s Party should go and pay, this court has the capacity to take your money back with interest as the counsel for EC submitted.
“So we have just as a matter of case released the hands of the Electoral Commission to collect its filing fees so that the process can move on. And the matter that we brought about the fee being charged is not backed by law, will be determined subsequently.
“The court has spoken. We came to court for the matter to be determined, the court has determined it. This is part one. Part two will follow,” stated Siaw.
