The head Communications at the Electoral Commission (EC) of Ghana Mr. Kofi Dzakpasu, has revealed that spoilt ballots can be changed as many times as possible on election day provided the voter indicates that he/she has made an error whilst casting the ballot.
He states that no law bars voters from changing ballot papers to enable them vote for their preferred candidate in the voting booth, but said they must exercise caution not to abuse the system.
“You can change the ballot papers several times. No law restricts you on the number of times you can change the ballot paper but we must also be careful not to overly abuse the system”, he disclosed.
According to him, Presiding Officers in the over 29,000 polling stations have been instructed to assist voters who wish to change their ballot papers because they either voted for the wrong candidates or voted the wrong way.
Speaking to Kwame Adinkra on Abusua Nkomo, Mr Dzapkasu said the commission is ready for the exercise and is currently transporting electoral materials to various polling stations in all the 275 constituencies for voting to take place tomorrow.
He advised persons especially security personnel whose names were not captured on the list of special voters to visit their original polling stations to vote warning that those who were captured but failed to turn up to vote are not eligible.
“Those whose names were on the register as special voters but did not turn up on December 1 and 4 have been marked as absent and cannot vote again on December 7. It is only those whose names were missing who may be eligible to vote”, he added.
