President John Dramani Mahama says no amount of political propaganda by the opposition will destroy the ties between the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the people of the Volta Region, the party’s strong-hold (World Bank).
This is because, according to the President, the government has kept and will continue to keep faith with the people of the region, adding that the government has never taken the people for granted.
“They (opposition parties) have spewed a lot of political propaganda about the Volta Region, but all have fallen flat because they are not supported by reality,” he said.
Addressing a mammoth rally at Aflao in Ketu South Municipal on Saturday as part of his campaign tour of the Volta Region, President Mahama said the people of the region were aware of what the government has done for the region.
“You are all witnesses to what we have done in this region,” he said, and gave a list of completed projects in the water, sanitation, agriculture, roads, education, fishing, health housing, entrepreneurship, commercial sectors and sea defence projects, all aimed at opening up the region for development.
“We have done a lot,” he said, but noted that a lot more remained to be done and announced plans for the implementation of a number of development projects in his next term.
He urged the people not to be deceived by the propaganda by the opposition parties, particularly the New Patriotic Party (NPP), but to keep supporting the NDC administration to retain power.
According to the President, the government and the NDC highly value the support from the Volta Region, and would therefore not take that loyalty for granted.
“I want to assure you that the NDC will never abandon Ketu South and the Volta Region,” he said.
President Mahama urged the rank and file of the NDC in the region to remain focused in preaching the goods works of the government.
“Let us remain focused and continue the good that we are delivering as a government and a party,” he stressed.
From Aflao, President Mahama visited to Denu where he interacted with traders and residents, after which he moved to Abor where he addressed another mammoth rally. After that he moved to Akatsi where he inaugurated the newly constructed Akatsi-Ziope road to end his second phase of the Volta Region campaign tour.
