The chiefs and elders of Agavedzi division of Somey Traditional Area in the Ketu South Municipality of the Volta region whose area faces extinction as a result of tidal waves are set to storm the national capital with their grievances.
The chiefs strongly believe if the central government does not immediately expedite action to salvage the situation, their community would completely be wiped out.
The Dufia of Agavedzi, Torgbui Akpornoguia at a press briefing at Agavedzi to express their frustrations threatened to hit the streets of Accra, particularly the Flagstaff House to ensure that their demands are met, TV3 Volta Regional respondent Robert Abilba reports.
The recent tidal waves on last Sunday destroyed more houses and properties worth thousands of Ghana cedis there.
An estimated 700 residents have been displaced in the area whilst houses numbering about 200 have also been lost to the sea. The unbearable situation has led to an increased number of internal refugees without place to rest their heads, some are forced to pair with families and friends as they wait for government’s intervention, Robert observed.
The chiefs in drumming home their frustration asked government to come to their aid as soon as possible or else the seat of government would be their next resettlement area.
Meanwhile, residents have given a one month ultimatum to government to fix the situation or would join their chiefs to hit the streets of Accra to demand what they called “fair share of the national cake”.
