Reverend Professor Emmanuel Asante, Chairman of the National Peace Council, has bemoaned the violent conduct of some security personnel during the second round of Special Voting last Sunday.
He observes that it should be a source of worry for all considering the critical role security personnel play before, during and after elections and therefore urged them to exercise restraint irrespective of the situation as peace officers.
“The conduct of some security officers is worrying. It should b a major source of worry especially when it involves persons who are supposed to be peace officers”, he told Lantam Papanko on the Ultimate Breakfast Show.
Reverend Asante also called on the Electoral Commission (EC) to be professional in the discharge of its duties and apply its rules fairly so that the electorate and the representatives of the political parties do not lose confidence in them.
He is optimistic that the country will emerge from the polls more united and strengthened if everyone conducts himself/herself properly cautioning those beating war drums to be wary that there is only one country whose citizens are peace loving people.
The Peace Council Chairman reiterated the need for security personnel to be more than prepared to protect and preserve the peace in the country in order to foster the needed development.
