The immediate past moderator of the Presbyterian church of Ghana Very Rev. Prof. Emmanuel Martey has observed that vigilantism which is gradually creeping into the democratic dispensation of the country is also drawing back its development fortunes.
He is worried that the situation if not immediately checked could dent the reputation of the country calling on various stakeholders including religious leaders to speak against the latest canker.
Condemning the recent activities of Delta Force in the Ashanti region, he warned that if the country must progress, such groupings must immediately be disbanded and members who flout laws dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others.
Professor Martey condemned pro-NPP vigilante group’s violent activities in the country especially their latest attack at Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly Circuit Court in Kumasi.
Violent activities of Invincible Forces, Delta Forces, Bolga Bull Dogs and Western Crocodiles and others, with their unorthodox modus operandi has doubtlessly been a severe dent on the democratic credentials of the country”, he stated
Addressing the second graduation ceremony of the Christ Apostolic University College in Kumasi on a theme, maintaining high moral and ethical standard among graduates, the role of the private universities, Rev. Martey urged the NPP led government to put a halt to the national shame their alleged vigilante groups have brought onto the nation and put damage control strategies in place immediately.
“You came less than three months and Ghanaians are watching. Violence is violence no matter who commits it and must be condemned. Ghana must not be taken years back through the violent vigilante groups. We must move on in freedom and justice. Progress and development”, he said.
It would be recalled that some members of the Delta Force on March 24, 2017 stormed the Ashanti regional coordinating council and forcefully demanded the removal of the regional security coordinator.
George Adjei was appointed by the President for the post but according but the groups claim they cannot work with him because he is not from the region.
They broke into Adjei’s office manhandled him and asked him to leave the premises.
