In a heartfelt revelation of his life’s journey, the Vice President of the Republic, His Excellency Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, spoke at a gathering of New Patriotic Party (NPP) supporters about the challenges he faced and the unwavering support he received from his friends during his time at Oxford University. Reflecting on his remarkable achievements, Dr. Bawumia attributed his success to the values of hard work, honesty, discipline, and faith in God.
During the event where he filed his nomination forms for the presidential primaries, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the arduous path he had walked. “It has not been an easy journey,” he shared. “It has taken a lot of hard work, discipline, and dedication to get here. But I have always believed that with hard work, honesty, discipline, and faith in God almighty, everything was possible.”
Dr. Bawumia candidly discussed the hurdles he encountered along his road to success. “I have been a by-day worker on farms during secondary school holidays, a warehouse boy even after completing university, and a mini truck driver,” he recalled. Moreover, he revealed a profound aspect of his academic journey – he managed to pay for only one term of his studies at Oxford University. Grateful for the support he received, Dr. Bawumia expressed his deep appreciation for his colleagues who helped him survive the remainder of his time at the prestigious institution.
“I only settled my fees in arrears after working following the completion of my Ph.D. in Canada,” Dr. Bawumia added. “During my university days in Canada, I worked as a cleaner of toiletries. So, I can say I have not had it easy at all.”
These experiences have shaped Dr. Bawumia’s perspective, teaching him never to take anything for granted and to treat all individuals with respect, regardless of their societal standing. “My life experience tells me never to take anything for granted and always to have respect for people, no matter their stature in life, no matter how big or small they are,” he emphasized. “The cleaner or the driver you meet today could be the vice president or the president tomorrow.”
As Dr. Bawumia’s inspiring journey continues, his story serves as a reminder of the power of determination and resilience in the pursuit of one’s dreams. His words resonate with hope and perseverance, inspiring countless individuals to believe in their own potential and strive for greatness, irrespective of the obstacles they face.
