One of Ghana’s veteran actors, Ebenezer Donkor, known in showbiz as Katawere has died aged 78. This was confirmed by his daughter who rushed him to the hospital where he was declared Dead On Arrival (DOA).
Speaking on Accra based Joy Fm, daughter of the late actor, Diana Donkor who also said she was a nurse said her father had been sick for the past two years.
“He was sick but the sickness was on and off. There were times he was very well and healthy but other times it was not good at all” she said.
“I went to his room to wake him up to take his breakfast and his medication but he was not responding. I called him several times but he was not waking up so I checked his pulse and I’m a nurse myself so I checked and realised he was gone.
“I called his doctor and he said I should bring him in. I rushed him there and he was declared dead.”
Katawere had been acting for over 30 years and was very popular in the mid 90’s when Akan Drama was aired on TV.
He went under for several years but reemerged when the local movie industry ‘Kumawood’ was thriving. He starred in over 20 Kumawood movies with a few yet to be released.
May his soul rest in peace.
