The Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia on Monday visited three out of the 18 victims of the Kintampo Water Falls disaster at Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region.
The Vice President and his entourage made up of the Brong Ahafo Regional Minister Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh; Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Catherine Abelema Afeku, and Members of Parliament first visited chiefs of the area.
They then visited three bereaved families who have been identified as hailing from Kintampo.
Onua FM’s Awudu Issahaku who is following the entourage said the Vice President visited victims in their homes and later visited some of the survivals at the Kintampo Government Hospital.
“We have lost 18 young men and women at the prime of their lives who were in school trying to make a difference to their lives. We have lost them under very tragic circumstances. We will allow the necessary investigations to go on as we see what we can do for the affected families,” Dr. Bawumia told the devastated crowd.
The Vice President promised to attend the funeral and promised government’s support for the bereaved families to organize a befitting burial for the victims.
Meanwhile, the Kintampo Water Falls has been declared an emergency zone by the Regional Security Council. Police have taken over the place.
