Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday paid a visit to Kintampo in the Brong Ahafo Region to mourn with the victims and families of the Kintampo waterfalls disaster.
Commiserating with families of the bereaved victims, the Vice President described the death toll which at the time of filing this report was 21 as a “major loss”.
He subsequently pledged his government’s support for the bereaved families.
The Vice-President visited the scene of the accident in the accompany of the Bono Ahafo Regional Minister, Kwaku Asoma Cheremeh and Tourism Minister Catherine Afeku.
Earlier, Minister of Tourism and Creative Arts, Catherine Afeku urged the bereaved families to put behind them what had happened.
She said, government was putting in place measures to ensure safety at the various tourist sites in the country.
The deceased were mainly students from the Wenchi Methodist Senior High School (SHS) in the region who had gone to the Kintampo Waterfalls on excursion last Sunday, March 19, 2017
According to some eye witnesses, after a downpour on the said day, strong winds buffeted a tree until it came crashing on the students, some of whom were taking instructions from a teacher to take shelter.
