The Vice President Paa kwesi Amissah-Arthur wants the presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Akufo-Addo, to condemn his party members for planting thumb-printed ballots in a hotel and turning around to accuse the NDC.
The Ashanti regional chairman of the NPP, Antwi-Bosiako, known as Chairman Wontumi, led the police to the Madison hotel in Kumasi where thumb-printed ballot papers similar to that of the Electoral Commission’s but had no stamp nor serial numbers were stashed in three bags.
The ballots were thumb-printed for President Mahama who is seeking re-election in the December 7 elections, but both the police and the Electoral Commission have described the ballots as fake.
The governing NDC suspects the NPP staged the action to make the president look bad.
Addressing the final rally of the National Democratic Congress in Accra, the Vice President described the whole development as “so backwards… it is so unacceptable, I think that Ghana deserves better”.
He therefore called on all including the NPP’s flagbearer to condemn members of the party for trying to undermine the integrity of the elections.
“I am hoping that the presidential candidate of the NPP, will condemn this attempt to undermine the integrity of our election by putting all these documents in a hotel to be found and claim that it is the NDC that is doing it.
“We condemn it and invite other people to condemn this action and other actions such as this that seek to undermine the integrity of our elections.”
