AS at the time of going to press yesterday, the signs were clear that the city of Accra was ready for the celebration of Valentine’s Day today.
Today’s visit to some shops in the capital city showed display of gifts for the celebration.
Gift hampers with treats were displayed on the streets with market women selling their wares passionately.
The treats included teddy bears, chocolates, red lingerie, silk rose, bottles of wine and heart shaped pillows.
Big sized teddy bears were selling at Gh¢50 while small sized teddy bears were being between Gh¢10 to Gh¢20.
The silk rose was also sold between Gh¢10 and Gh¢20 depending on the size.
Speaking to Today in an interview, a trader, Desmond Lartey, disclosed that sales were good.
“The market is good. Since this period comes once a year; people like last-minute buying. I know I will make good sales by the end of today,” he expressed.
A trader at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, Accra, Aunty Stella, said sales were encouraging as compared to last year.
“I think people understand what love is all about so they are buying for their partners. Teddy bears and chocolates are moving fast,” she said.
Also a business man, Richard Quansah, expressed enthusiasm about the day.
“I have bought gifts for my mum and girlfriend and I hope they like them.”
A student from the University of Ghana, Cecilia Lawson, told Today that she was expecting a gift from her boyfriend since she had already bought him one.
