The six kindergarten pupils who died at Breman Jamra in the Asikuma Odoben Brakwa district after their school building collapsed on them were buried yesterday.
The incident, according to reports, occurred last Tuesday when a dilapidated school building was pulled down, leaving just a part that housed the kindergarten pupils, leading to the incident which claimed four lives on the spot.
Two others died at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital where the injured were rushed for medical attention.
Three other children who survived the accident are said to be in critical condition and are receiving treatment at the hospital.
Meanwhile, Minister of Education, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, who was in Gyambra, has assured bereaved families of government’s commitment in giving the six deceased kids a benefiting burial.
Dr. Opoku Prempeh who also visited the other injured kids at the Our Lady of Grace Hospital at Breman Asikuma assured the parents of the victims of government’s decision to foot the bills of all those on admission as a result of the collapsed structure.
He described the accident as unfortunate and pledged government’s commitment in ensuring that such negative occurrences do not happen again in the educational front.
He also bemoaned the lack of cooperation between the education sector and the chiefs in the area, as the chiefs were not even aware of the contractor who was responsible for building the classroom to house the kindergarten pupils.
Meanwhile the youth of Breman Jamra yesterday demolished the structure which killed six pupils of the Breman Jamra Methodist School.
Their action was on the orders of the chief in the town, Nana Kwaw Fosu III, after the kindergarten block of the school collapsed on the children on Tuesday, January 31, 2017.
The about 70 pupils, aged four and five, were about to settle for studies when the building collapsed.
Many others who sustained varying degrees of injuries are receiving treatment at the Breman Asikuma Hospital.
The chief blamed the Ghana Education Service (GES) for not heeding to their plea when they called for help.
Nana Kwaw Fosu III noted that the block in question had developed cracks and several appeals for the defects to be fixed were not adhered to.
