The General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Mr. Atik Mohammed has attacked state institutions and their officials for not ensuring the safety of both public and private properties in the country.
“Ghanaians today are unpatriotic to protect state properties from going waste,” he stated it on Peace FM’s flagship show hosts by Kwame Sefa Kayi.
Speaking on the Kintampo Waterfalls disaster that claimed about 20 lives, the Mr. Atik stated that individuals with government institutions do routine maintenance to their personal properties than that of the state and this has led to some of the disasters in Ghana.
According to him, this unenthusiastic attitude has led to the deplorable nature of public places, which pose as a great danger to the people.
He has therefore blamed authorities of the Kintampo Waterfalls for the recent death of 20 students of the Wenchi Senior Secondary who were on excursion to the site.
According to him, if the authorities had done some maintenance check, the accident could have been prevented and the calamity would not have befallen the country.
Former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Bantema, Hon. Kwabena Kokofu also blamed leadership of the country for doing little to maintain state properties.
He said, both National Democratic Congress (NDC) and NPP stand accused of avoidable accidents such as that of Kintampo Waterfalls and in many other places across the country.
Hon. Kokofu urged Ghanaians to develop the culture of maintenance to ensure state properties are safe to use.
