Two police officers have been arrested alongside a two-man robbery gang, following a failed robbery attempt at the the Galamsey gold mining site in the Upper Denkyira East constituency in Kyikyire near Dunkwa-on-Offin, Central Region today [Monday, January 16].
The four robbery suspects were almost lynched by the angry gold workers if not for the timely intervention of the District Police Command. They were however, already beaten to pulp before they were snatched from what would have been a very bloody death.
Commenting on the incident, the NDC constituency Chairman for Upper Denkyira East, Nicholas Quaicoo who disclosed this said the policemen armed with AK47 were taken unawares by some of the night security personnel during their operation.
The two policemen identified as Daniel Omar and Isaac Kumahare reportedly stationed at Cape Coast Kotokuraba Police Station. They claimed to have agreed to escort the robbers after they told them that they were gold dealers.
Meanwhile, the Dunkwa Police Commander is yet to be reached to confirm claims that the gang has been carrying out robbery activities at mining sites.
