Two men have found themselves in trouble with the law for posing as military officers.
Simon Dwomfour, alias “Kwabena Richard”, and Stephen Akplele, were on Tuesday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court charged with possession of military accoutrement without authority and falsely pretending to be public officers.
The pair pleaded not guilty to the charges and were each admitted to a GH?10,000.00 bail, with two sureties.
They were ordered by the court, presided over by Mr. Ekow Mensah, to make their next appearance on Friday, October 14. Police Chief Superintendent Emmanuel A. Akunnor said Dwomfour was arrested at Nfensi on the Kumasi-Sunyani road on September 11, dressed in military uniform, and escorting a truck loaded with timber products.
Upon questioning, it was established that he was not a soldier and he was handed over to the Regional Police Criminal Investigations Department. The prosecution said police investigators saw on his phone a picture of himself standing with Akplele – both men, dressed in military camouflage and carrying MI6 assault rifle and a pump action gun.
The officers moved swiftly to apprehend Akplele and a search of their rooms at Kenyase-Adwumam, in the Kwabre East District, uncovered a toy MI6 assault rifle, pump action gun, military accoutrement – uniform, boot, cap and bag.
The judge, before granting them bail remarked that “if the facts are anything to go by, then, some people are becoming bold these days”.
