A 28-year-old man who disguised himself as a military officer in an attempt to smuggle illegal logs at Mfensi near Kumasi in the Ashanti Region has been arrested by the Police.
Simon Dwumfour who was dressed in a military uniform, was arrested on September 11, 2016 by the police anti robbery squad at Mfensi while he escorted a truck-load of illegal logs.
He has been linked to illegal logging activities in some forest reserves within the Atwima Nwabiagya enclave.
Regional Police Public relations officer, ASP Mohammed Yusif Tanko, told journalists “When our men from the anti robbery squad arrested him, he identified himself as a soldier,”
His arrest also led to the capture of Stephen Apklehe, who also carried himself as a soldier.
The two will be prosecuted on account of impersonation, the police revealed.
Meanwhile, the police have also arrested 19-year-old Abubakar Sadiq for stabbing to death Osman Mustapha last August Aboabo in Kumasi.
Abubakar is alleged to have killed Osman following series of confrontations. The suspect absconded after the stabbing incident but was later arrested.
A Nigerian, Yekini Adejuma, has also been arrested for conniving with some Ghanaians to divert government sponsored free agrochemicals for farmers.
According to the police, Yekini has been buying Metacide Super 66 WP and other non-saleable and stolen agrochemicals from his Ghanaian accomplices.
He was arrested at the VIP transport terminal in Kumasi following a tipoff.
ASP Tanko says the police command is poised to rid the communities of criminal elements.
