TV3 Network Ghana Limited emerged tops in nationwide television coverage on December 7, 2016, when Ghanaians went to the polls to elect a president and 275 members of parliament (MPs).
Garnering 20 per cent of the average audience share, TV3 beat UTV and Adom TV to second and third respectively.
“The major contributory factor was the election programmes aired,” GeoPoll said in its release on December 16.
Election Command Center and News 360 were the two programmes telecast on the election day and they garnered an average of over three million impressions, according to the poll.
“Election Command Center on TV3 (10h00 – 12h00) attracted slightly more males than females, 428,983 and 395,985, respectively, with majority of both gender being young adults (25-34 years), making up 453,732 impressions, followed by the youthful group (15-24years) making up 239, 240 impressions.
“News360 recorded high number of male audiences than females: 1,769, 647 and 1,131,413, respectively, with young adults (25-34years) making up the majority, 1,566,572 impressions.”
Among the television stations considered for the poll are GTV, GH One, Metro TV, Viasat One, UTV and Adom TV.
“UTV placed second spot in the day, making up an average share of 19% (translating into 3,159,809 impressions) and Adom TV placed third spot, with an average audience share of 18% (translating into 2,993,503 impressions).”
Social media also went abuzz with #ElectionCommand jumping to the top of Ghana’s Twitter trends on the D-day.
Not even an ancillary hashtag, #ElectionCommandCenter, could be suppressed on Twittersphere as it made it to the top.
