According to the Commission, documents presented by the Ghana Freedom Party presidential nominee indicate Mrs Asante is 17 year’s old; meaning she registered as a minor.
“…Her date of birth given to us is October 15, 1998, making her below the age of registration and we may possibly have to call on the Police to investigate a case of minor registration if the candidate [Mrs Asante] is a valid voter,” Ms Charlotte Osei, Chairperson of the Commission said Monday.
Ms Osei said this at a news conference in Accra Monday afternoon at which Madam Akua Donkor and 11 other presidential nominees were disqualified from contesting this year’s election.
Mrs Patricia Asante a.k.a. Yaa Asante had told Ghanaians on the day of her unveiling that she was 32 years old but came out a day after to clarify that she made a mistake with her age.
She explained her real age is not 32 but 42.
However, on the nomination forms submitted to the EC by Madam Akua Donkor to the EC stated her date of birth October 15,1998
But the EC in disqualifying Madam Akua Donkor Monday cited a number of issues including what is says is the provision of “three different signatures of herself” as the basis.
“On the basis of the information provided to the Commission, the Vice presidential candidate is not qualified for the office on the basis of age,” Ms Osei stated.
According to the Commission, Madam Akua Donkor’s “statutory declaration was incomplete. Her form was not properly filled. The consent to candidacy by the candidate and the vice president nominee were not signed,”
