The Agbogbomefia of the Asogli State in the Volta region, Togbe Afede XIV has been elected president of the National House of Chiefs.
He secured 25 votes to beat four other contestants in a keenly contested election on Thursday at the national secretariat of the House of Chiefs at Manhyia in Kumasi, Ashanti region.
He was followed by the Paramount Chief of Lower Axim Traditional Area in the Western region, Awulae Attibrukusu III who polled 11 votes.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin II, the Okyenhene from the Eastern region placed third with 10 votes whilst Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhene of Essikado Traditional Area managed with 3 votes.
Akoma FM’s Antwi Boasiakwa who monitored the election for 3news.com reported that Mr. Daasebre Kwebu Ewusi VII, Paramount Chief of Abeadze Traditional Area in the Central Region was elected as the Vice President of the National House of Chiefs after obtaining 28 votes.
He contested against Naa Puowele Karbo III, the Paramount Chief of the Lawra Traditional Area and Okatakyi (Dr) Amenfi VII, Omanhene of Asebu who obtained 13 and 8 votes respectively.
Only one out of 50 chiefs expected to vote did not show up in the election supervised by the Ashanti regional Director of the Electoral Commission Mr. kweku Siriboe.
Togbe Afede XIV will take over from Wulugu Naba, Pugansoa Naa Professor John S. Nabila.
