The Minister-designate for Gender, Children and Social Protection Ms. Otiko Afisa Djaba has been approved by Parliament after securing more than 50% of votes cast.
The Minority side of the House staged a walkout opposing her nomination on the basis that she refused to honour her national service in 2009.
The Speaker therefore had to subject her approval through voting of which 152 members on the Majority side voted in her favour.
Earlier, Ghana’s parliament approved the nomination of six persons to be sworn in as ministers by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
They are Ursula Owusu-Ekuful – Minister-designate for Communications, Joe Ghartey – Minister-designate for Railway Development, Professor Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng, Minister-designate for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, Joseph Kofi Addah – Minister-designate for Sanitation and Water Resources, Kwesi Amoako-Atta – Minister-designate for Roads and Highways, Kwaku Ofori-Asiamah, Minister-Designate of Transport.
They were sworn in later on Tuesday evening at the Flagstaff House.
