Three Tonaton Estate agents are still in police custody weeks after being admitted to bail by an Accra Circuit Court.
The three, Stephen Asamoah, Daniel Quartey and Solomon Agyiri, have defrauding three prospective tenants to a total of GH¢67, 200 under the pretext of offering them apartments.
The three were in court charged with five counts of conspiracy to commit crime, defrauding by false pretences and attempting to commit crime.
All three accused persons, Asamoah also known as Joe alias Ken, Quartey aka Nii Kwartey and Agyiri, paraded themselves as estate agents or landlord.
The police said the accused persons took advantage of the online market platform provided by Tonaton to lure their victims.
The police claimed the accused persons advertised houses with their contact numbers, accessible to the public online.
Nii Kwartey and Joe in their caution statement, defrauded Forewin Ghana Limited in the sum of GH¢36,000 and a female victim GH¢12,000.
Agyiri on his part, collected GH¢19, 200 from his victim but they all failed to deliver the keys of the houses to the prospective tenants.
Agyiri, the police said, had refunded GH¢1,000 after his arrest.
However, all three pleaded not guilty to the four counts of conspiracy, defrauding by false pretences and attempted to commit crime.
Nii Kwartey and Agyiri were admitted to bail with three sureties, one each to be justified.
Joe, on the other hand, has been reminded into police custody.
The Tesano Divisional Police Commander, Chief Superintendent Lydia Donkor, cautioned the public against the growing trend.
She urged the public to be circumspect in their dealing and ensure due diligence in all transactions in order not to be give themselves to the criminals.
Chief Superintendent Lydia Donkor also admonished the public to call for assistance from the police regarding background check on people they intend to transact any business with.
All three are to re-appear in court next week.
