Three people are said to have died on the Volta Lake when the canoe they were travelling in capsized.
The deceased include Emmanuel Atsu, a 17-year-old student Haavi Alavayo Junior High School and two teachers at Sajikope in the South Dayi District.
According to reports, the five teachers and the student were going to buy some tilapia in a nearby town when the canoe capsized.
Brother of the deceased, Eric Atsu explained that, his brother was the one paddling the canoe when the unfortunate incident occurred.
“The teachers had asked permission from the headmaster of the school and also asked my brother to take them to the riverside to buy tilapia but halfway to their destination, the canoe capsids and the three died on the spot” he stated.
Three other teachers, Atsu noted survived after they were rescued by some residents in the area.
Meanwhile, the body of the deceased have been deposited at the Anfoe Government hospital for autopsy.
