The Managing Editor of the Insight newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has advised ex-President Mahama not to succumb to pressure by some elements of his party calling on him to stage a come back in partisan politics, urging the former leader to buy time and have a sober reflection on his legacy.
“It will be very unwise for him to make any statement now” that may bother on his future in local politics, Pratt told host of Anopa Kasapa show, Fiifi Banson, on Kasapa 102.5 FM Thursday.
The debate rages on over the political future of ex-President John Dramani Mahama after his exit from government over the weekend.
Some elements within the NDC are seriously rooting for him [Mahama] to stand for the position of the Flagbearer again in the party, but his immediate family insists that the former President should call time on partisan politics.
Commenting on the issue on Thursday, Mr. Pratt said the former leader should be planning on how to defend his legacy.
“Nothing has happened yet. He should be expecting that his legacy would be attacked. If he’s not expecting that his legacy will be attacked then he’s naive. You can’t move in and out of presidency the same way [you] check in and out of a hotel. It’s a serious business.
“When I talk about defence of his legacy, I’m talking about political defence of his legacy which may include other things like legal defence and other things. And the defence he needs to make may lead to the conclusion that he needs to make another brake.”
Meanwhile, Pratt said Mahama’s Family has no locus to decide for him in national issues, insisting that he’s become a national asset and no longer belong to his family alone.
