The largest opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) will have no campaign message for the 2020 elections if immediate past President, John Dramani Mahama refuses to contest the party’s primaries, Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt Jnr has said.
According to the ace journalist, the NDC campaign message for the 2020 General Election will be a defence of the legacy of the former president, John Mahama.
He has therefore admonished persons within the party skimming to discourage the former president from making a comeback to lead the NDC to desist from such acts.
Speaking on Radio Gold current affairs programme, Alhaji and Alhaji Saturday, Kwesi Pratt said “common sense should tell the NDC that if they vote out Mahama in the primaries for 2020, they don’t have any message for 2020.”
He alleged that there are faceless people in the NDC seeking to “knock out Mahama to the ground” ahead of the elections.
“Fifteen people are lacing their boots to assume Mahama’s position. How do you do that if you don’t knock Mahama to the ground? So knock Mahama to the ground, finish him so that you can also become presidential candidate. That is what is happening in the NDC now,” he added.
The NDC which campaigned on the slogan Changing Lives Transforming Ghana lost the 2016 presidential election to the ruling New Patriotic Party.
Since that unprecedented defeat, the party has not known peace as some members continuously “trade blows” in the media over possible cause of the party’s defeat.
In the wake of the “infighting” in the NDC, some stalwarts in the party such as the veteran Goosie Tandoh, a former La Dadekotopon, MP Nii Amassah Namoale and a communicator, Stephen Atubiga, have all declared their intention to contest the presidential slot.
However, Mr. Kwesi Pratt sees the move as a deliberate attempt to block the comeback of the NDC former president to lead the party for the 2020 elections.
He urged persons interested in leading the 6 to focus on building the base of the party and stop the “secret campaigns”.
