There is uneasy calm in the Western Regional branch of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on whether to propose the Member of Parliament (MP) elect for Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituency Madam Catharine Ablema Afeku for any Ministerial appointment.
The reason has been a bone of contention for all the executives since her loyalty to the party is questionable due to her lingering fraudulent deeds in the past.
According to some members of the party in the region, Madam Afeku is indeed known to be an unstable politician whom they claimed was noted to have canvassed votes for herself and that of President John Dramani Mahama during her campaign, according an organiser at the regional level.
She is a dangerous woman, we knew what she did to Hon Isaac Osei prior to the 2012 presidential primaries of the NPP where she shamefully collected monies from the MP for Subin with the aim of supporting him but later went around to stab in his back by throwing her support for Nana Addo.
Madam Afeku didn’t end it there where she did same to Alan Kweremanteng by collecting colossal amount of money and other items ahead of the 2008 presidential primaries.
The newly elected MP was also spotted in the constituency during her campaign where she was captured to have being telling the people of Evalue Gwira to vote ‘skirt and blouse’ saying that she knew that John Mahama has done very well in the area but they should vote for John Dramani Mahama and vote for her, even though the strategy worked for her but is this the kind of person that we should trust and recommend for a serious appointment? An executive member of the party lamented to this reporter last week in Takoradi.
Madam Afeku after winning her seat has been spotted going about gossiping and back-biting people to the top figures of the party especially at the residence of Nana Addo just to win favour, an act which has been condemned adding that her supposed ‘rush’ in lobbying to be favoured is too early since the region is made up several competent and descent women of high moral that can be recommended for appointments.
“Is it not this woman who used most of her common fund when she was an MP from 2009-2012 to build a restaurant in Axim and cultivated a rubber plantation?. Another executive member with name withheld officer quizzed”.
Madam Afeku’s loyalty is therefore questionable adding that the party will not only recommend supposed fraudsters just in the name of affirmative lines but will rely on people with clean hands who will not bring to disrupt the image of the party when given the nod.
“We are aware of her lingering fraud case that the court had asked her to refund the monies which she and her husband Seth Afeku fraudulently took from the Girk family in America which people are warming up to petition the appointment committee should she be appointed for any Ministerial appointment and I think our party will not be ready to face the awaiting disgrace in the face of Ghanaians”.
Another executive member of the party described Madam Afeku as not being a trustworthy politician and will be a mistake if she is given the position since her past records of corrupt deeds is still lingering around her neck and call on the national executives to be mindful of her candidature for any appointment.
In fact am a woman but hon Afeku is not a straightforward person, she is capable of lying and stealing and I don’t think she is clean enough to serve as a government appointee.
