Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, has called for the arrest of the former Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Commissioner of Police (COP) John Kudalor, over his alleged involvement in the violent confrontation that transpired at the premises of the Ga Mantse Palace at North Kaneshie, Accra on Tuesday, January 24, 2017.
Nii Tsuru II accused the former IGP of sparking the clash between the two sides at the Ga Mantse Palace on Tuesday, January 24, 2016 because of his relationship with people associated with Adama Latse.
Speaking in an interview with Today in Accra on Thursday, January 26, 2017, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II further accused the former IGP of being overly partisan, and asserted that his views were similar to that of many persons in the Service.
In this regard, Nii Tsuru called on the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Commissioner of Police (COP) David Asante-Apeatu, to commence investigations into the riots and arrest the former IGP and his subordinates who failed to act professionally by deciding to take sides when the situation demanded that they maintain law and order.
He maintained that COP Kudalor must be questioned about the whereabouts of the several motorbikes, the missing GHC25,000, the Nissan Patrol and the Jeep his men allegedly took away.
These items, the Ga Mantse stressed, must be returned immediately.
According to him, returning the said items should not be difficult “because the known land-guards who led the onslaught who were identified as one Asafoatse Brother, Staff and Hard Man, were known to John Kudalor and his men.”
The Ga Mantse also seized the opportunity to plead with the acting IGP to arrest John Kudalor and his men as well as the said land-guards for investigation and prosecution.
He noted that the police efficiency and professionalism has witnessed an embarrassing decline.
This development, he said, has seen indiscipline crept into the command structure of the Ghana Police Service.
However, he expressed the hope that the new IGP will perform to the expectation of all Ghanaians, noting that he expects him [the acting IGP] to undertake some structural reforms to ensure the Ghana Police Service is envied across the continent.
In his estimation it has become obvious that until the police began to act as an independent institution, some of these unfortunate incidents would continue to hound the country forever.
According to him, in order to halt the trend, the acting IGP must set the standard by making sure that all the guys who were involved in the act of mayhem including firing of gunshots are arrested and prosecuted.
It would be recalled that on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 violent clashes erupted amidst gunshots and destruction of properties at the Ga Mantse Palace by the police on one side, aided by some land-guards.
