The Sunyani accident left four final year female students dead, and one man severely injured…
Tragedy struck before the dawn of Sunday, 12th march, 2017, when a car conveying four final year trainee nurses of the Sunyani-Tanoso Nursing Training College in the Brong Ahafo Region crashed into a tree. The accident reportedly occurred along the Sunyani-Abesim road around 12 am on Sunday.
Reports reveal that the car, a Nissan Primera with registration number A 486 13, veered off the road at top speed and hit a tree, somersaulting severally and landing with the top with four tires up in the air.
Unfortunately for the Sunyani accident victims, no rescue mission came to their aid until after noon on Sunday when information got to the Brong Ahafo Regional Police Headquarters. Superintendent Daniel Oppong Asirifi, Head of the Regional Police Headquarters who spoke to Citi News said they got information of the accident at 12:30 pm on Sunday and immediately set off to the scene to rescue the victims.
He revealed that the five occupants of the car who all sustained high degrees of injuries were rushed to the Brong Ahafo Regional Hospital. The driver, who is the only male occupant is alive, but it appeared all the passengers – the four girls died on the scene of the accident.
The four trainee nurses in the car where reportedly returning to Tanoso from a Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs) nomination jam held in Sunyani on Saturday night; although this is yet to be confirmed.
The surviving driver is currently receiving treatments, while bodies of the girls – Florence Osei Tutu 23, Dora Maga 24, Gifty Yeboah 24 and Vivian Coffie 23, have been deposited at the regional hospital morgue.
Our condolences to the affected families and students of the Tanoso-Sunyani Nursing school who have been thrown into a state of shock by the tragic incident. And may the souls of the departed ones rest in peace.
