Electoral Commission (EC) office at Suhum in the Eastern Region has been closed down following an attack on the officials by unknown assailants Thursday night.
According to reports, a group of thugs ransacked the office and took away the printer being used for the voter transfer exercise in the area.
Adom News’ Maxwell Kuderkor who visited the office said, the EC officials have vowed not to open the office until maximum security is provided.
They noted that the thugs whose names were given as Oduro and Mohammed followed them to their house and threatened to kill them if they go near the office.
An Assistant EC official who only gave his name as Morgan revealed that the same thugs threatened him days ago before the latest attack.
But some of the people who throng the EC office to transfer their votes were left disappointed since they have to travel to Koforidua to get it done.
Meanwhile, Suhum National Democratic Congress (NDC) Youth Organizer, Kofi Wayo has rendered an unqualified apology to the EC for the act.
Though he claimed the NDC has not hand in what happened, he believe the right thing must be done to prevent a recur.
Mr. Wayo said the printer which was taken away by the thugs has been returned to the EC office.
