MANAGING Director of Subah Infosolutions Ghana Limited, a wholly Ghanaian owned ICT and telecom solutions provider, Mr. Birendra Sasmal, has disclosed that his outfit saves the telecos US$10 million every month be helping to detect Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) fraud operations.
According to him, over the last four years, his company has managed to save the country a whopping amount of US$70 million dollars annually.
Additionally, he indicated that the company’s operations has also helped increased Value Added Tax (VAT) collection from GH¢25 million annually on average to about GH¢60 million cumulatively, amounting to GH¢3 billion over the years.
Mr. Sasmal disclosed this when management of the company interacted with members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications in Accra last Monday. It also provided management of Subah the opportunity to give an overview of their operations over the years.
The visit was to enable members of the committee, which was constituted recently, to acquaint themselves with operations of the leading Information Technology (IT) and telecommunications solution provider in the country.
The committee’s first point of call was at the Subah Assembly Centre at Spintex Road, after which they visited its Data Centre at the Roman Ridge all in the capital Accra.
Interacting with management of the company, Vice Chairperson of the committee, Hon. Frederick Opare-Ansah, who doubles as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Suhum constituency in the Eastern Region, opined that the visit was part of a number of familiarisation tours the committee intends to embark on.
He explained that the visit was to offer them first-hand information because they do not want to sit down for issues against the company to crop up before they find out the cause.
A member of the committee, Hon. Opare-Ansah, who is the MP for Suhum, said they have oversight responsibility over all the major players within the telecommunication industry.
“Most of the members are not industry players, so we decided to come look at what Subah Infosolutions does so that when we sit as a committee and we are having deliberations, it will also inform us on the issues we discuss,” he said.
The Suhum law-maker assured that the committee will address the issue of SIM boxing and data leakages, which has led to the loss of revenue for the country.
He also gave the assurance that the committee will support stakeholders like Subah Infosolutions with the necessary legal assistance to ensure the succeed in their operations.
Members of the committee were also briefed on the progress of Subah’s Digital Mapping and Property Addressing System which started in late 2016 with national service personnel.
The project is a privately funded initiative being implemented with the support of Melchia Special Data Infrastructure to collect and process accurate and reliable data for national development.
Manager for Business Development and Marketing at Subah Infosolutions Ghana Limited, Mr. Emmanuel Hudson-Odoi, told the law-makers that the company was prepared to ensure that the mapping project, which is currently being piloted in the Greater Accra Region, becomes a national one.
Meanwhile, the managing director of Subah told the media on the sidelines of the tour that the company has over the last two years been able to produce about 20,000 digital set up boxes.
