Former Black Stars captain Stephen Appiah has been continuously been linked with a role in the back room staff of incoming Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah but claims he has not been contacted by the Ghana Football Association.
The former Juventus midfielder captained Ghana to its maiden World Cup tournament in Germany and also participated in the 2012 World Cup in South Africa.
Despite retiring from active football Appiah has been ever present around the senior national team and was named as a member of the technical team for the Brazil 2014 World Cup. During the search process for Avram Grant’s successor he campaigned heavily for the appointment of a local coach for the Black Stars.
Incoming head coach Kwesi Appiah is expected to make recommendations to the Ghana Football Association on a number of changes to the backroom staff of the team and Stephen has been heavily tipped to take over the role as team manager.
He has hinted that he will be open to the opportunity to serve Ghana when approached. “I have not received any letter but Stephen Appiah is a business man.
“I have players that I am managing and players that I am training and other ventures I plan on coming out with. “I am available and if it comes to working with the Black Stars I am ready,”he revealed. Kwesi Appiah is expected to officially commece work on May 1,by which time the full composition of his technical bench will be clear
