The effigy of the late president of the third republic of Ghana and paramount Chief of Gwollu traditional area was at the weekend unveiled by the Gwollu Kuoro and the regional director of education at a colourful ceremony at the Gwollu Senior High School.
The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) Chairman Alhaji Maada Ishmael tasked the students to pass by the statue every morning to constantly remind themselves of the discipline, hard work and incorruptible nature of the late president as the values that Ghana requires of them to serve her as future leaders.
He was worried that contractors working on the school infrastructure used substandard materials which are manifested in electrical fault, cracks in the buildings and general delay of work.
Alhaji Maada Ishmael has therefore appealed to government to ensure satisfactory work is done before retention is released to contractors
The regional director of the Ghana Education Service Madam Patricia Ayiku who gave the keynote address spoke on the theme” a society that doesn’t recognize it’s heroes is not worth dying for” asked the students to emulate the good examples set by the late president.
She told the students to eschew laziness and learn hard and was full of praise to the organisers for the program.
Kuoro Buktie Limann who initiated the must read a biography of Dr. Hilla Limann described him as an intelligent person that was very honest.
‘We did this in order to ensure that the younger ones will know the story of the former president and also to prevent the distortions of the facts’.
Gwollu Kuoro appealed to government to consider creating a national monument in honour of the former head of state.
The district Director of education and acting headmaster of the school Mr. Francis Maali listed water shortage as one pressing challenge of the school.
This he said has compelled them to purchase a tricycle to be fetching water and this is burdening them with a high cost of running. The situation he bemoaned is affecting teaching and learning.
